Frequently Asked Questions
Q: What is a Segway?
A: The Segway is a new personal transportation device that is designed to go anywhere you do. It balances itself on two wheels while speed and steering are controlled by your body’s movements. You simply glide along and the Segway senses where you want to go. Learn more about the Segway i2.
Q: How will I learn to ride the Segway?
A: The Segway is fun and easy to learn. Your tour begins with 15 minutes of training on segway safety and maneuvers. Once you feel comfortable with operating the Segway your tour really starts.
Q: Are the tours only in English?
A: We find that English is the most popular language, and we stand the best chance of "booking up" English language tours. We do, however, know of some excellent foreign language guides, and if you book at least a week in advance, there is a chance that we can arrange a private tour for you in a foreign language. Please contact our office for details.
Q: Do I have to make a reservation?
A: Tours are booked by reservation only. Book your tour in advance to make sure you don’t miss out. You can easily book your tour online or call.
Q: Do you offer private tours?
A: We do offer private tours. Just check our calendar for time slots with private tour availability. After you choose your favorite tour, you'll be given the opportunity to choose a private tour for an additional €30/per passenger. Private tours do require at least 2 passengers.
Q: What if it rains?
A: You’re coming to Amsterdam where there is always a chance for damp weather so a little rain doesn’t keep us from having fun. If the rain should be torrential however, we will try to reschedule your tour.
Q: What is the minimum age to operate the Segway?
A: In the Netherlands, the compulsory age for operating a Segway is 16. Each passenger must bring a valid photo ID that includes a date of birth to the meeting point. Don’t forget your ID or you won’t be able to ride the Segway.
Q: What is the weight restriction of the Segway?
A: To operate properly it is required that the passenger weigh more than 100 lb. (45 kg) and less than 250 lb. (113 kg).
Q: What is your cancellation policy?
A: A 100% refund is given to tours cancelled at least 72 hours before the meeting time. Unfortunately we are unable to give a refund for tours cancelled after that time.
Q: What if I miss my tour?
A: We really hope that doesn’t happen. Please do your very best to be early to your tour. Public transportation can’t always be counted on either so we suggest giving plenty of time for getting to your meeting point. We have no way of holding up a tour for anyone running late or not showing. We are sorry, but no refunds for missing your tour.
Q: Do we go inside museums?
A: We will show you a lot of Amsterdam, and it’s super easy when you glide through it on a Segway. Our tours don’t stay put for very long before they are on the move again, so we don’t have much time for going inside museums.
Q: Can I take pictures on the tour?
A: Of course, we hope you take many pictures on your tour. We make plenty of stops along the tour for taking pictures. Please do not take any pictures while in motion on the Segway.
Q: Can we just test drive the Segway?
A: Our Segways are only available for tours, so go ahead and book a tour, you won’t be disappointed.
Q: Can I rent a Segway from Best Dam Segway Tours?
A: We offer guided tours only. Book a tour with us!
Q: What should I wear?
A: Closed toe flat shoes are required to ride the Segway. Anyone wearing high heels, flip flops, sandals, shoes like shape ups or z-coils, or bare feet will NOT be allowed on the Segway. It is highly recommended that you wear wind resistant clothing for riding the Segway, especially on cool or damp days. On a colder day we suggest gloves as well. Dress comfortably and ready for an amazing outdoor experience!
Q: What should I bring to the meeting point?
A: For age verification, you MUST bring valid photo ID with a date of birth, such as a passport or driver's license, for every person in your group. A security deposit of €200 will be required for each passenger (€500 max per reservation) and will be returned after the tour. We suggest Visa or MasterCard for your deposit, however cash will also be accepted.
